Bo Nicholson
Investment Adviser
Bo Nicholson has lived in Raleigh, North Carolina, for a lifetime. He grew up alongside his two younger brothers, William and Henry. Raleigh's rich history and vibrant culture have been the foundation of his personal and professional journey, and he continues to have his roots firmly planted there.
After graduating high school, Bo attended the University of Georgia, earning a degree from the Terry College of Business in 2010. His time in Athens was not just about academics; he was also a member of the touring rock band Mama’s Love. The band performed extensively across the Southeast and recorded original music at well-known studios, such as Southern Ground in Atlanta and with the renowned producer John Keane in Athens. These years shaped his approach to collaboration, discipline, and teamwork, lessons he still carries today.
Although Bo’s career path moved away from full-time music, his love for it remains strong. He continues to perform in Raleigh with his local cover band, Steamroom Etiquette, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music remains integral to his life, offering a creative outlet and personal fulfillment.
Career Development
Bo began his professional career in 2012 when he joined Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. He completed the firm’s demanding Practice Management Development program, where he launched his practice through grassroots efforts such as cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These early experiences instilled in him a deep appreciation for relationship-driven work, proactive communication, and client service.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, where he partnered with Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper at Financial Resource Management (FRM). He was attracted to the firm’s client-focused culture and its emphasis on fostering long-term relationships. Since then, FRM has become a trusted advisory team serving high-net-worth families and business owners across North Carolina. The firm now has offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo holds the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®) designation, which he earned in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course. He is a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, an honor given to top performers within the firm. He also co-hosts a weekly personal finance radio show broadcast across the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show offers practical guidance on various financial topics, underscoring his commitment to making financial education accessible and engaging for a wider audience.
Advisory Philosophy
Bo’s approach to financial advising is grounded in clarity, trust, service, and long-term thinking. He aims to help clients simplify complex financial situations, reduce unnecessary tax exposure, and make thoughtful decisions at every stage of their lives. Whether clients are preparing for retirement, funding education, transitioning a business, or managing family wealth, he is a strategic partner, guiding them through some of their most important life decisions.
Each client relationship is unique, and Bo takes great care in tailoring financial plans to meet individual needs. He approaches each consultation with humility and attentiveness, ensuring that every recommendation is rooted in what matters most to the person or family he is working with.
Personal Life
In 2018, Bo married Seely Stephenson in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. After their honeymoon in Greece, the couple settled back in Raleigh, where they now have two children: their daughter, Grove, born in 2021, and their son, Bill, born in 2023. The family is completed by a loyal yellow lab named Parker.
Outside of his professional life, Bo enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, and visiting the North Carolina coast. His passion for live music remains strong, and he often finds time to perform or attend shows. He is also a proud uncle to five nieces and nephews and values his close-knit group of friends. The values of consistency, care, and authenticity that define his professional work are also deeply embedded in his personal life.
Future Aspirations
As Bo approaches a decade with Capital Investment Companies, he remains committed to growth, not only in terms of his business but also for his personal development and the people around him. He continues to work toward building a thoughtful, people-centered firm culture, all while deepening the trust placed in him by both clients and colleagues.
From his days performing in a band to his current work in wealth management, Bo's journey has been marked by a commitment to purpose, integrity, and building lasting relationships. Through all his endeavors, he has maintained that the most meaningful work is achieved one relationship at a time.
